Review: Uma’s Bells represent the purity of a sunrise on a new morning, Classical Sitar, Tabla once again allowing the sitar to paint a picture of calmness and serenity
JP Wilson
A fail-safe classical sitar and tabla track that will give every listener goosebumps. Bells of Bhairavi (Uma’s Bells) with all its musical nuances portrays the early morning sights and sounds by the river with Shiva pining for his beloved, Uma, evoking authentic feelings of purity and compassion.

Metaphysics: Shiva pining for Uma represents, the male aspects of divinity in an unusual emotional feminine character, reflecting upon and feeling his compassion and vulnerability, and this has been shown through the long, relaxed sitar glissandos. Secondly, the city of Varanasi (Banaras), considered the residence of Shiva lies on the banks of the river Ganges, considered as a Goddess. At dawn, the Sun rising above the river layering the river with large spirals strokes of reflections, shows yet an another dimension of pining. Suffice it is to say even divinities long for their companions just like us vulnerable human beings travelling through a ‘lonely’ universe.
